BMW Concept 8 Series Makes Worldwide Debut

BMW recently introduced the Concept 8 Series at the Villa d'Este Concours in Italy. The concept that made its debut at Lake Como is expected to be quite similar to the final production design, with a few minor exterior modifications made in order to make sure that safety standards are met.

It's clearly evident that the 8 Series is a beautiful machine. The signature kidney grille is framed by laser headlights, while an extended hood line, flowing roofline and large rear fender flares help shape the sporty, elegant form. We're going on the record as saying that we hope the magnificent 21-inch wheels featured on the concept will be offered as an option on the finished production model.

The interior features a digital instrument cluster, squared-off steering wheel and two-tone leather-and-microsuede seating with contrasting stitching. The next generation of BMW's iDrive makes its debut in the Concept 8 Series, with the Concept 8 Series showcasing a rotary iDrive controller that's made using Swarovski crystals.

Word is out there that the 8 Series will come with a standard turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, with the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 that's currently offered in the 750i available as an optional upgrade. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard issue, and available xDrive all-wheel-drive system will be offered as an option.

When the 8 Series makes its dealership debut next year, it is anticipated that there will be three models to choose from: a two-door Coupe, a four-door Gran Coupe and a Cabriolet.
