BMW Adding EV Charging Corridors Nationwide
Transportation officials are giving electronic vehicles a boost by establishing 48 EV corridors nationwide, and BMW is playing a large part in the expansion. Once established, the corridors will provide peace-of-mind along 25,000 miles of highway spanning 35 states. BMW is one of the auto manufacturers that have agreed to help accelerate the EV station deployment.
BMW of North America recently announced that the ChargeNow by EVgo programs, including ChargeNow DC Fast, will be expanding to more than 50 metropolitan areas across the United States. Currently, EVgo's network offers over 668 dual-port DC fast charging stations that are supported by supplemental Level 2 chargers, and plans are to add at least another 50 to the program this year. EVgo charging stations are strategically placed on well-traveled roads near shopping and dining destinations.
Once completed, the program's expansion will provide more than 92 percent of BMW i3, i8 and iPerformance vehicle owners with the opportunity to enroll in and take advantage of a program that's been tailored to their vehicle. After enrolling, drivers can easily locate EVgo chargers either by using the BMW Connected app or the in-vehicle navigation system, and enrolled BMW owners can use the ChargeNow card that was provided with their vehicle to access nearby EVgo stations and ChargeNow by EVgo no-cost or reduced-cost public charging.
