BMW Vehicles to Feature Seamless Integration of Amazon Alexa

Recently, the BMW Group reported that all BMW models from mid-2018 will include the highly versatile Amazon Alexa voice-controlled personal assistant, expanding the intelligent connectivity available to benefit owners and make their lives easier.

BMW Connected for Alexa has been available since September of 2016, allowing users in the United States, Germany and the UK to have Alexa to check their vehicle's fuel level and more, or to control their BMW via Remote Services. Alexa also makes it possible for owners to consult appointments, schedule routes and check departure times through the BMW Connected mobility agenda; by adding Alexa to the car, owners can now access functions they use at home while they're on the road.

Notably, owners do not need to use their smartphone to benefit from Alexa's presence in the car, since the vehicle will have a built-in SIM card. This instant online accessibility is certainly convenient, and allows Alexa to display relevant content on the BMW Display Screen.

In a press release, Dieter May, Senior Vice President Digital Services and Business Models at the BMW Group, declared, "By making this step of integrating Alexa into our models from mid-2018, BMW and MINI will form a more intrinsic part of our customers’ digital lifestyles. Voice control first featured in BMW Group cars many years ago, and we are now enhancing its functionality by adding a digital ecosystem, which will open up all sorts of new possibilities that customers can access quickly, easily and safely from their car."
